Beauteque Mask Maven October 2015 Review & Unboxing

My Mask Maven subscription from Beauteque came so late in the month, but it's become one of my favorite subscriptions so I'm not even all that mad about it. I've just been obsessed with sheet masks lately; they're a fun, affordable way to make my skincare routine feel less like a routine. Before I get into this month's review, an aside - I've realized that although I tend to include a few masks in every kbeauty purchase I make, I just haven't been getting through them fast enough. I have a pretty size-able collection that I ungracefully stuff into a very large file cabinet, so I've decided to start going through my mask collection and posting some reviews! :D This works out even better for me because I'm currently on a low-buy, and I have a bunch of awesome skincare stuff that I should enjoy before hoarding any more (#shopyourstash, anyone?). Besides, I don't do enough mask reviews anyway, and I have no idea why because they're so much fun!

Anyway, maybe it's just my guilt and empty wallet talking (Or maybe it's the fact that I'm night blogging at the moment... insomnia and college has me in its grips, and I just finished binge-watching season 1 of Wentworth on Netflix and I'm dealing with some heavy feels), but I want to put up as many reviews as I can in the coming months before I splurge on more skincare, no matter how cute or luxurious it may be. Anyway, if you're already familiar with Mask Maven, feel free to skip below to the review! Also, excuse my photos, for some reason they're all tinged blue.

What is the Mask Maven Bag?
Beauteque's Mask Maven bag is a $15 monthly subscription service that will send you 9-11 various masks each month, including sheet masks, wash off masks, hand/foot/elbow masks, and more.

The awesome thing about the Mask Maven sub is that usually, it can carry you throughout the month if you're a 2-3x/week masker. For an everyday masking pro, this is still a pretty solid deal, since Beauteque seems to send a mix of both popular and under-the-radar masks.

Like many other subscriptions, you can save a few bucks here and there by subscribing for longer periods of time!

 A monthly sub costs $15/month
 A 3-month sub costs $15/month
 A 6-month sub costs $14/month
 A 12-month sub costs $13/month

Shipping ranges from $3.95 to $9.95 depending on your location. Beauteque ships their Mask Maven bags to the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

This month's info card has a cute little food theme called Beauteque's Brunch, and is reminiscent of your typical American breakfast/brunch. How cute!

"This month's theme focuses on foods from a typical Western brunch. From honey to yogurt and egg to tangerine, there is an array of ingredients that will be sure to nourish your skin. Some diffeent functions from the mask this month include firming, moisturizing, and soothing which will make a gourmet meal for your face."

Mediheal ADE Cocoa Mask - Yum, how cute! I've been wanting to try some Mediheal masks for a little bit now, and this one has raw cacoa as a main ingredient that supposedly contains a bunch of anti-oxidants to help fight free radicals and give skin a boost of hydration. I'm just glad it's chocolate, and how cute it the packaging? :D

Botanic Farm Green Tea Mask - I love me some green tea, especially in my skincare, so I'm happy to see this mask here. It's also from a company I'm not too familiar with, so I'm excited to try this one out! Green tea is supposed to help soothe the skin and help reduce inflammation.

Skinfood Beauty In A Food Jeju Tangerine Mask - I've been seriously loving Skinfood's packaging lately. It seems like they're revamping their image, and while not all of their products have been absolute wins for me, they do still have some cute and interesting skincare that's easy on wallet, yet still effective. This mask contains Jeju tangerine peel extract, which is touted to enliven dull skin and provide hydration.

Beauty Friends Tomato Mask - I've been seeing Beauty Friends masks pop up a lot in my Mask Maven bags, but I don't mind since they're pretty decent as far as cheaper masks go. This one contains tomato extract, which can help reduce dark spots, fade acne scars, and control oil. My skin loves tomato, so I'm happy to see this mask in here as well!

Esfolio Egg Essence Mask - The packaging on this mask is so adorable!! Look at those lil' eggs. This mask contains egg yolk extract, which will moisturize the skin and leave it feeling soft. From what I've seen of this mask in particular, it has a bit of an alcohol-y smell and the thick cotton sheet is saturated with a fairly viscous essence. I haven't tried this one yet, but I've tried a few Esfolio masks in the past and they're pretty okay.

Skinfood Everyday Facial Yogurt Mask - Yogurt is another ingredient that my skin seems to love; I used to do yogurt masks using Greek yogurt, honey, and a squeeze of lemon for brightening and to reduce redness. Although I do appreciate not having to mix the ingredients myself sometimes, which is where this mask will come in handy! This mask is supposed to provide deep hydration while improving skin texture, and I'm excited to see how well it will work. This actually makes me want to do another Greek yogurt mask, hmm...

Skin 9 Panda Honey Elasticity Pack - Honey, honey! One of my favorite skincare ingredients (along with propolis), this mask claims to help fight signs of aging as well as combat acne and keep skin firm and elasticized. I hope this is a character mask!

Skin 9 Super Puppy Whitening Honey Pack - Another of what I expect is a character mask, this one also contains honey and has whitening properties to help brighten and even out skin tone and combat fine lines as well as acne. So cute!

Rainbow L'Affair 3-Step Mask Pack Vitamin - Oooh, I'm super excited about this mask! I love masks that contain different steps, and this one has a cleanser and an ampoule that you're supposed to apply before the mask to boost its effects. While I'm not sure about the pH of the cleanser that comes along with this mask, I'm not a stickler for the low pH cleanser "rule", so I don't really care and will gladly use this. This mask contains a blend of vitamins to nourish skin.

Final Verdict

I really liked this month's Mask Maven bag! I especially loved the brunch theme (food-themed skincare is my weakness), so I am overall pleased with the contents. I'm willing to bet money that the panda and puppy masks are character masks, and how cool is it that they sent two in the same month?! The multi-step mask is also a fun product, and I see some pretty solid brands (Skinfood and Botanic Farm have done well by me in the past). I honestly have no complaints this month, which is a far cry from my thoughts on Beauteque's BB Bag which I was not a huge fan of (see my review here). Unfortunately, I had to cancel both my BB Bag and my Mask Maven subscriptions. I wasn't really feeling the BB Bag anymore, and I have far too many masks that I have to get through to warrant continuing on with my Mask Maven sub. However, if I could stay subbed to Mask Maven, I would! It's generally a good deal (9-11 masks for $15 isn't bad, in my opinion), and nothing beats having someone send you a selection of masks so you don't have to search around yourself for fun new masks to use!

If you'd like to sign up for a Mask Maven subscription, you can do so OVER HERE. Happy masking!
