Mini Review: Chieljedang Inner B Re:COVERY Wrapping Mask

In an attempt to post more on my blog (rather than just on Instagram and Twitter - hey, it's not my fault that I'm lazy and it's so much easier!), I'm going to talk a little bit about this Chieljedang Inner B Re:COVERY Wrapping Mask that I won in a giveaway from Facetory over the holidays.

A little about Facetory - Facetory is the new K-beauty destination on the market, specializing in sheet masks. They have a subscription box service that delivers unique masks to your doorstep each month, carefully curated to suit your skincare needs.

  • Four-Ever Fresh ($4.95/mo) - Includes four carefully curated sheet masks, and includes more fabric-type masks such as cotton and cellulose. A great entry level plan for Kbeauties who are newly discovering sheet masks.
  • Seven Luxe ($14.95/mo) - A premium plan of 7 masks for Kbeauties wanting to discover the latest trending and results driven sheet masks, and includes more diverse selections such as hydrogels and multi-step masks with higher quality ingredients.
We are a group of sheet mask junkies located in sunny California who came together to curate and run a monthly sheet mask subscription box called Facetory. Like everyone else, we were first overwhelmed by the variety of Korean sheet masks available in the market when we all first started our sheet masking journeys. However, armed with the passion about Korean skincare, we have come to love and appreciate the wonders of sheet masking.
Our obsession led us to find so many great sheet masks available that were harder to access outside of Korea. Now we want to share and provide our favorites among the latest Korean masks in an affordable and easy way. Each month we work hard to bring you - whether you're a sheet mask junkie or a sheet mask newbie - the must-have sheet masks delivered right to your doorstep.

The Chieljedang Inner B Recovery Wrapping Mask immediately caught my eye - it comes with a snack! CJ recently released this mask for their food and beauty product line, Inner B. Inner B stands for Base, Balance, and Beauty, and started off as a premium edible cosmetics company selling products such as pill supplements and various drinks for healthy skin and body. As someone who already takes supplements for healthier skin (collagen and hyaluronic acid supplements, to be exact), I definitely understand and vouch for the idea that a big part of having good skin comes from the inside.

Inner B's motto is "Be Beautiful, Inside and Out", so they included an edible peach jelly stick called the Aqua Stick. The purpose of this mask is to protect your skin from the harsh autumn weather, while hydrating you from the inside as well.

Instructions state that before opening the package, you're supposed to fold the packaging over itself to pop the oil in the water drop shape at the bottom, releasing the serum into the sheet mask. I of course failed to do this, and opened the top part of the mask first before realizing that there were too parts. :( It all worked out though, since it wasn't hard to pop the tear drop shape and massage it into the mask, even with the package already open. The mask itself was already wet, so I guess the tear drop was just an added boost. I don't see why they couldn't have just infused the mask with the oil serum beforehand, but it's cute and makes the experience a bit more fun, so I won't complain!

The mask is a thin net material that is mostly transparent - it clings to the skin really well and doesn't slide around once adhered, so I was able to be up and about doing this while masking. The nose area was a bit short on me and the eye holes a bit large, but otherwise the mask fit well, extending all the way to my ears and underneath my chin.

Directions say to leave this mask on for about 20 minutes, and that's about how long it lasted before it dried up and had to be removed. The moisturizer and oil serum are supposed to make skin soft and glowy, and I do think it achieved that for my skin - after removing the mask sheet, my face was incredibly soft, smooth, and radiant. When I read that the oil serum was a huge component, I was a bit worried about how well this would sink into my combo skin, especially after the other steps in my routine, but surprisingly in sunk in after about 5 minutes or so to reveal a glowingly soft, non-greasy feel to my skin. Definitely a mask that I would use again!

The peach stick is apparently very similar to the Korean herbal medicine packs you see Korean celebrities drink for a boost of nutrients, and is portable and easy to throw in your bag to take with you on the go and eat whenever you're feeling dehydrated. I gave a bit to my fiance, and he thought it tasted like strawberries; I thought it tasted like lychee, so we were both wrong, but it's definitely fruity and delicious! It's just a jelly strip, but it's definitely a fun addition to an already great mask. While I didn't notice an immediate plumping or hydrating effect, I didn't expect any visible changes after just one stick, so I guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope it "hydrated from within". I've been taking both collagen supplements and hyaluronic acid chews for over a year now, and I can indeed say that they do help skin look more firm/plump, but it isn't an overnight venture by any means - I didn't start seeing true results until about 3 months in to my daily supplement routine, so perhaps with regular use the aqua sticks might make some magic happen, but I don't have enough sticks to test that theory, and I'm sure my hyaluronic acid chews are cheaper, in any case.

Final Thoughts: This mask was definitely an interesting experience, but more importantly, it was a positive one! 9 out of 10 for this one, since I really enjoyed how dewy and healthy my skin looked after the mask, and the peach-flavored aqua stick was a fun (and yummy!) edition to the whole experience. My skin felt chok chok af. I'm not sure where these are sold at the moment, but I'll update this post when I find out  - I definitely want to get my hands on more of these, but I don't see them listed on Facetory's website. Have you heard of this mask or have tried it before? What did you think? I hope this skincare + snack trend really takes off - a sure way into my heart (and wallet, ha!) is food and sheet masks, after all.
