About a month or so ago, I was contacted by the lovely Jill of Scalisi Skincare, and she asked me if I'd be interested in reviewing one of their latest products, the Silk Elixir Serum. I've been seeing a bit of buzz on social media regarding Scalisi Skincare, so of course, I was curious. Read on for my full review!

Directions: Use daily AM and PM under your Scalisi Skincare moisturizer.
Packaging: The serum comes in a plastic 1oz/28ml bottle with a pump dispenser, which I prefer over having to shake something out of a tube or having to stick my fingers into a tub. Much more sanitary!
Review: This serum has some pretty nice ingredients such as lentil seed extract, rose extract, and colloidal gold. Now, my stance on precious minerals in skincare is lukewarm at best. Luxury skincare brands are often guilty of adding trace amounts of gold, diamonds, etc. to products in order to jack up the price, and set them apart from the competition in the eye of the consumer. While colloidal gold has been known to calm acne inflammation, brighten the complexion, reduce skin redness, and protect against free radical damage, there are many more anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredients that are just as effective and cost so much less. Thus, whenever I see a product boast about containing gold, I'm immediately skeptical.
The consistency of this serum is a very thin, easily spreadable lotion (excuse the sleep lines on my hand, I had just woken up from a nap #lazybumlife). It has a very typical lotion scent, and sort of reminds me of cheap drugstore lotion, which is fine because it's not offensive or overwhelming. It sinks in quickly, leaving my skin feeling hydrated yet matte.
While I didn't notice any immediate brightening effects, I am pleased to say that over time, I did notice a subtle evening of my complexion while using this serum. After about 30 days of continuous use (1-2 times a day), I'm feeling just okay about this product. It has a silicone-y feel to it (dimethicone is the second ingredient after water), so it does a good job of smoothing the skin, and making pores and fine lines look a little less noticeable. But to be fair, my primer can do that for half the cost. I have noticed a slight difference in the appearance of some post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) on my cheeks, most likely due to the ascorbyl glucoside, which is a natural form of vitamin C. It does work well under makeup from what I can tell, and it almost has a primer-like effect, making makeup look smoother and more luminescent.
Final Thoughts: Overall, I enjoyed using this product for a number of reasons - the subtle brightening effect it provided, the fact that it made my pores/fine lines look smaller, and how well it worked under my makeup. Despite how much I like this product, the price is a pretty big issue for me; this is undoubtedly a very well formulated, luxurious product, but it didn't wow me. For $65, I expect to be utterly enchanted with a serum, and this one was just nice. It kind of reminds me of a really fancy-pants primer, which if that's what you'e looking for, I think this would be worth checking out! I'm pretty interested in some of Scalisi Skincare's other products (you can shop the entire line here), but this one just left me feeling "eh", mostly because of the price. Can't win them all, I guess!
