Review: Innisfree Kale Anti-Oxidant Skin Toner

I'm back with another review for ya! I was recently contacted by the online K-beauty retailer Keauty Picks and was asked if I wanted to receive a package of goodies to review (of course my answer was an emphatic yes please), and one of the products I was received was the Kale Anti-Oxidant Skin Toner from Innisfree. Kale already makes up like 25% of my diet (or something), so I'm definitely okay with putting some on my face.

A little about Keauty Picks - "Keauty" means Korean + Beauty, which is fitting since Keauty Picks is the new Korean skincare retailer in town. I will admit I have browsed their website often, looking longingly at all of the awesome products from great brands such as Klavuu, Neogen, Jayjun, Leaders, Dr. Jart+, and more. For reference, my skin type and concerns are combination-dry skin (oily t-zone, dry cheeks), concerns include enlarged pores, redness, hyperpigmentation/scarring, and prevention of fine lines and wrinkles.
Anyone noticed? Keauty means Korean + Beauty = Keauty, We called ourselves Keauties because of our love and dedication to Korean Beauty Products from popular sheet masks to innovative products that are infused with natural ingredients from nature. Our philosophy is to curate the best Korean beauty products to maintain your skin healthily and help to discover your own natural glow.
We truly believe healthy glowing skin starts from 2Es - Easy Everyday Skincare Routine. We want to share our easy healthy skincare routine and introduce our special cares and secrets from our experience. (Shhh only with Keauties exclusively!)

Price: $13 for 150ml

Purpose: The Innisfree Kale Anti-Oxidant Skin Toner is a detoxifying and revitalizing toner with kale as the star ingredient. Kale helps to both condition the skin and remove dead surface cells, promoting cell regeneration and improving overall skin health. It's naturally rich in antioxidants and anti-aging properties to purify and protect the skin while improving skin elasticity, resulting in a clearer, firmer, more luminous complexion. Best suited for aging/dull, dry skin; all skin types.

How to use: Pour desired amount onto a cotton pad or apply directly with hands. Gently apply all over face and neck 2x daily, pat in gently for better absorption.

Ingredients:
Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Ethanol, 1,2-Hexanediol, C12-14 Pareth-12, Phenyl Trimethicone, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Tromethamine, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Sodium Polyacrylate Starch, Ethylhexylglycerin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Disodium EDTA, Brassica Oleracea Acephala Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta Glucan, Glyceryl Caprylate. CosDNA Analysis
The CosDNA analysis came back relatively clean, listing only butylene glycol as an acne trigger of 1, which isn't bad at all. There are some pretty notable ingredients in this cute lil' greenish-brown bottle, including:

  • Cocoa Extract - Richer in antioxidants than both red wine and green tea, cocoa extract contains flavenols that can help alleviate sun damage and slow down aging.
  • Bergamot Fruit Oil - Oil that is cold-pressed from the Italian fruit peel; it has a delightful, citrus-y scent and has gentle antiseptic, toning, and cleansing properties.
  • Kale Extract - Loaded with antioxidants and vitamin A, kale has the ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and helps in preventing free radical damage.
  • Glycerin - Seals in moisture and helps maintain skin's moisture balance on a cellular level, which results in healthy, hydrated skin. Has emollient properties that make skin look supple and radiant.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate - An intensive moisturizing ingredient which attracts water to the skin to keep skin hydrated. It is a natural substance found in the human body and is made up of amino and uronic acids. It can retain 100 to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it the perfect ingredient for intense hydration.

Innisfree is probably one of the most popular/well known Korean brands in the US; my dive into the K-beauty rabbit hole started off with a lot of Innisfree products, since they were (and still are) affordable and easily accessible. I hadn't tried an Innisfree product in quite awhile before getting my hands on this toner, so I was interested to see how it would hold up to my other brightening/anti-aging toner experiences. Innisfree has a whole line of veggie-inspired skincare products called their Super Food From Jeju line, with everything from red beets and oats to broccoli and blueberries. Yum!

This toner comes in a thick, sturdy plastic 150ml bottle. The packaging itself is clear, so that deep greenish-brown color is the alllll toner, baby - and it smells like a sweeter version of kale. Like a lot of Innisfree products, the scent is strong with this one, so if you're scentsitive, you might want to steer clear. I'm loving the super-food trend I've been seeing in the skincare world recently; kale is overloaded with vitamins C and K, beta-carotene, quercetin, and many other free-radical fighters. Kale has one of the highest ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) ratings, a system which measures food's ability to destroy free radicals and prevent premature fine lines and wrinkles, essentially slowing down the unwanted physical effects of aging on the skin. This toner is also chock-full of humectants, which help maintain plump, hydrated skin.

The Innisfree Kale Anti-Oxidant Skin Toner has an incredible hydrating yet lightweight texture that is a bit thicker than water. I was actually surprised at how fast this soaked in; my skin drinks this toner up immediately, leaving behind plumper, more firm skin that is nicely hydrated and soft. I think this toner would be perfect for the 7 Skin Method since it doesn't seem to sit on top of my face or have any problem absorbing into my skin. A lot of people think toning is an unimportant step in their skincare routine or something that is completely unnecessary, but after almost 2 months of using this toner twice daily, I have found that my skin looks a lot brighter and more lively, and doesn't seem to get dehydrated as quickly. Take that, toner haters! Most anti-aging products tend to be very heavy, but I love that I can get some preventative anti-aging action with such a lightweight product - it disappears almost immediately after applying, so if you have dehydrated/oily skin, this won't just sit on top of your skin or make it appear oily/greasy.
The Innisfree kale range also includes a couple of other products, namely a lotion and a cream. After having such a positive experience with the toner, I definitely want to try out the rest of the line!

Final Thoughts: I really love the brightening, hydrating, and anti-aging properties of the Innisfree Kale Anti-Oxidant Skin Toner. I love the earthy, sweet kale scent and how soft and plump my skin feels right after applying, and I like how it doesn't interfere with other products in my routine. I have quite a few other toners open that I should really finish first, but I find myself reaching instead for the super hydrating super-food toner to meet the complex needs of my combination skin. It's rare to find a product that can sufficiently hydrate and soothe my dry, redness-prone cheeks while not over-hydrating or weighing down my oily t-zone, so for that, I would definitely purchase this when I run out. In bulk.

You can purchase Innisfree's Super Food From Jeju line at Jolse, where they have a Red Beet line for brightening, a Blueberry line for balancing, a Broccoli line for clearing skin, an Oat line for moisture, and of course the Kale line for its anti-aging benefits. As far as I know, Keauty Picks only carries the toner at the moment, and it's on sale right now for $13 (originally $14). I've also seen this pop up on Amazon for about $14 and Cosmetic Love for about $17.

Have you tried any products from the Superfood From Jeju line? I have my sights set on the Red Beet and Broccoli! Which ones do you want to add to your wishlist?
